FSSAI suggested this in an advisory and said that fruits that are stirred with ethylene gas are completely safe for health. Carbide ripened Fruits are harmful

Frequently calcium carbide is used to prepare unripe fruits. According to experts, arsenic and phosphorus are found in calcium carbide. It produces acetylene gas by reacting to the moisture present in the atmosphere, which is commonly called carbide gas in colloquial. Experts say that calcium carbide has a bad effect on brain, nervous system and lungs.

Government provides subsidies

For the use of ethylene gas, chambers are made with controlled temperature, where ethylene is used by keeping fruits ripe. Horticulture Board gives subsidy on manufacturing of these chamber or rooms. Ethylene used fruits have no balck marks on surface and also better for health.
