“ Bharat Bandh” turns violent in MP, Curfew in many cities

BHOPAL (WTN) : Violent protests erupted in Gwalior-Chambal and Sagar region in support of 'Bharat Bandh' called by Dalit organizations. Two causalities have been reported. Curfew has been imposed in Morena and Bhind to take control of the situation. In Bhopal, the protesters gathered near Board Office leading to traffic jam.

CM Shivraj Singh has appealed to maintain peace.

On 20 March, the Supreme Court issued guidelines that would protect public servants and private individuals from arbitrary and immediate arrest under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

The Supreme Court said that public servants cannot be prosecuted without written permission from their appointing authority. It is not mandatory and recourse to coercive action would be only after preliminary inquiry and sanction by the competent authority.

Coupled with this the court said that there was no "absolute bar against grant of anticipatory bail in cases under the Atrocities Act if no prima facie case is made out or where on judicial scrutiny the complaint is found to be prima facie mala fide".

Most political parties have been demanding a review of the Courts order. There are protests in many parts of the country. Today, the government has filed a review petition over the Supreme Court s order for new guidelines of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. - Window To News
