La Paz (Bolivia) Dec 8 (IANS) The Bolivian government has approved plans to redevelop the Hernando Siles stadium in La Paz the country s largest sports venue.
The home of Bolivia s national team will be expanded to accommodate 51 000 spectators up from 42 000 today according to Bolivia s official ABI news service reports Xinhua news agency.
The announcement was made after a meeting between Bolivia s president Evo Morales and officials from local first division clubs Bolivar and the Strongest.
"I d like it to be (completed) in the short term. From this moment on we are going to work " Morales said.
Built in 1930 the Hernando Siles stadium was revamped in 1977 but has not been upgraded since.
The venue will boast a larger pitch improved lighting and a more modern seating design the government said. No details were given about the estimated cost of the project.
