BSE appoints Swarup as new Chairman

Mumbai Aug 1 (IANS) The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday appointed Dhirendra Swarup as its new Chairman.



According to a regulatory filing made by the BSE Swarup was appointed after his name was approved by the securities markets regulator Sebi.

"BSE Limited has informed the exchange (NSE) that Sebi vide its letter has approved the appointment of Dhirendra Swarup Public Interest Director as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company w.e.f. July 31 2017 " the filing said.

Swarup who was functioning in the capacity of a Public Interest Director with BSE replaces incumbent Sudhakar Rao retired IAS officer.

Swarup is a former Chairman of Pension Funds Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and has over four decades of experience across finance budgeting public debt management public policy and pension reforms.

He has also served as Chairman of the Cash and Debt Management Committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 2000 to 2003.

Swarup has been a career civil servant and retired as Secretary to the Government of India Ministry of Finance.
