Kolkata April 2 (IANS) Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized eight packets of silver ornaments weighing 8.74 kg and valued approximately at Rs 3.61 lakh near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal s Nadia district a BSF statement said on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off the border force laid a trap near the India-Bangladesh Border Road (IBBR) in Krishnanagar sector on Monday and observed some suspicious movements in the afternoon. Two-three miscreants were trying to throw some packets over the India-Bangladesh Border Fence (IBBF).
The BSF personnel challenged the miscreants but they managed to run away towards the Indian side leaving behind some packets the statement said.
On a thorough search of the area the troopers recovered eight packets covered with brown colour tape and after opening the packets some silver ornaments weighing approximately 8.74 kg having a value of about Rs 3.61 lakh.
The seized items were handed over to the Krishnaganj Police Station in Nadia.
This year the BSF s South Bengal Frontier has seized 27.187 kg of silver valued at over Rs 8.69 lakh and apprehended a silver smuggler.
