Delhi gets Rs 790 cr, government disappointed (Lead)

01 Feb 2018

New Delhi Feb 1 (IANS) The Central government on Thursday allocated Rs 790 crore to Delhi for financial year 2018-19 while its share in central taxes and duties remained unchanged despite demands for an increase.

The budget allocation for the previous year was Rs 758 crore.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia complained that there was a mere 4.2 per cent hike in this year s budget.

He pointed out that in the Union Budget the share of Delhi in central taxes has not been increased from Rs 325 crore and is stagnant since 2001-02.

"The Delhi government deserves its legitimate share in central taxes to finance various developmental projects " he said in a statement.

Sisodia stressed that the Centre was requested a number of times to enhance the allocation to "at least Rs 5 000 crore".
