New Delhi July 27 (IANS) The Delhi government is mulling setting up academies of around a dozen languages including Bengali Marathi Kashmiri and Tamil in the city.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday directed Secretary (Art Culture and Language) V. Abrraham to draft a proposal in this regards.
In a letter Sisodia who also holds the portfolio of Art Culture and Language said people from all parts of India live and work in Delhi therefore there was a need to set up more language academies to cater to the diverse and cosmopolitan population of the national capital.
"I have found that language academies play an important role in promoting the languages of different parts of the country... they also promote the culture and tradition of different regions of the country " Sisodia said.
"Secretary (Art Culture and Language) is hereby directed to prepare a proposal for the formation of Bengali Gujarati Marathi Tamil Telugu Malayalam Kannada Odia Assamese Garhwali Kumaoni and Jaunsari Kashmiri and Marwadi academies " Sisodia directed.
Sisodia in his budget speech earlier this year had mentioned that multiple academies would be set up in Delhi during 2017-18.
