The honorable Supreme Court has said in one of its important instructions that the name and identity of rape victim can not be exposed in any condition even if she has died. According to the Supreme Court, the rape victim is also a dignified person, and we should respect her dignity even after the death of the victim, therefore in any case her name and identity should not be exposed even after her death.

For your information, please mention that after the death of gang rape victim in Kathua many media houses had exposed the rape victim's identity, in which the name of the victim and his family was explained in detail. On such media reporting, the Supreme Court said that the dignity of the deceased should be taken care of.

The media should do such a report in which the name and identity of the victim should not be exposed, so that she did not have to be embarrassed. The Supreme Court also said that even if the victim is alive and adolescent or mentally unhealthy, her identity should not be revealed.

In the matter of exposing the identity of the victim, the Delhi High Court had imposed a fine of Rs.10 lakhs each on 12 media organizations. The court imposed a penalty on it saying it was a violation of guidelines.

This directive should be welcomed. Because the misdeed victim and her family have to face trouble, in such a situation if her identity is made public, then there are various types of questions asked to her by society. All of us should follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court and do not make the identification of misdeed person.
