Dry day in Punjab on Saturday

Chandigarh March 10 (IANS) With counting of votes for 117 assembly seats to be held on Saturday the Election Commission (EC) has announced complete prohibition on the sale and supply of liquor all over Punjab on Saturday.

All the liquor vends and shops will remain closed on March 11 2017 an EC spokesman said here on Friday.

The Punjab Chief Electoral Office has been directed to ensure absolute compliance with the directions.

As per the directive all liquor shops in the state would remain closed and no hotel restaurant liquor shop or any eating joint even with a license would be allowed to serve or sell liquor on the day of announcement of results of the Punjab Legislative Assembly on March 11 the spokesman said.

The fate of 1 145 candidates including 81 women candidates will be decided on Saturday.

Voting took place in the state on February 4.
