New Delhi Feb 7 (IANS) The government on Wednesday hiked the basic customs duty on import of chikpeas (chana) by 10 per cent to 40 per cent with immediate effect.
A notification in this regard was tabled in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
"In pursuance of section 8A(1) of the Customs Tariff Act 1975 read with sub-section (3) of section 7 of the said Act this House hereby approves of notification No.25/2018-Customs dated 6th February 2018 which seeks to increase the basic customs duty on chana (chikpeas) falling under tariff item 0713 20 00 of the Customs Tariff Act from 30 per cent to 40 per cent " the statutory resolution tabled by Jaitley said.
