New Delhi Dec 26 (IANS) The Delhi government on Tuesday approved a scheme under which students of government schools here will be given free coaching in 31 different games and sport including cricket chess and martial arts by private trainers.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia who also holds the education portfolio told a media conference that under the new scheme private sports academies clubs and private coaches will get the permission to run training programmes in the premises of government schools which will be free of cost for their students.
"They (trainers) can decide the fee charges for kids from private schools by themselves " he said.
Sisodia also said that female coaches will be appointed for games that will only have girl students.
"People who wish to promote various games but are unable to do so because of lack of proper space will also be benefitted by this programme " he said.
The number of games if required can go beyond 31 he said. As of now these games include: cricket hockey kabaddi kho-kho rugby shooting squash table tennis taekwondo volleyball wrestling etc.
Sisodia said that this scheme was implemented one and half year back as a pilot project with around 50 to 60 students.
