Jallianwala Bagh massacre- A barbaric act by British in India

April 13 (WTN) - Ninety nine years ago on 13 April 1919, troops of the British Indian Army under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer fired bullets on a crowd of Baishakhi pilgrims, who had gathered in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, Punjab. Hundreds of pilgrims were massacred.The victims had no place to escape as the only narrow entrance was blocked by the troops.

In 1940, freedom fighter Udham Singh, who had witnessed the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar, shot and killed Michael O'Dwyer, the British Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab at the time of the massacre, who had approved Dyer's action and was believed to have been the main planner.
