Metro Cash & Carry, Amplus to install solar rooftops at outlets

24 Jan 2017
New Delhi : Metro Cash & Carry (Metro) on Tuesday announced that it has partnered with Amplus Energy Solutions to install solar rooftop projects at select Metro outlets across India.

"With this partnership, Amplus would invest around Rs 25 crore to install rooftop solar on the METRO outlets across the selected states - Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal," Metro Cash & Carry said in a statement.

The company said it will begin with solar rooftop units at 5 of its outlets in Telangana, West Bengal and Punjab, and intends to follow up with more installations in the coming months.

"Metro Cash & Carry plans to reduce its CO2 emissions by 1,72,500 MT or reduced consumption of 12,75,000 barrels of crude oil which will be equivalent to planting 2.15 lakh trees in India with this installation," the company added.

METRO Cash & Carry MD and CEO Arvind Mediratta said: "This association will help in reducing our dependence on coal or diesel-based power generation for our outlets and move to clean and renewable energy consumption. Amplus solar units will be economical on the power consumption cost by reducing the power generated per unit."

The Gurgaon-based Amplus, apart from installing solar projects, will operate and maintain them for a minimum period of 25 years. -IANS
