Bhubaneswar Dec 18 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday urged the Centre for early release of a commemorative postage stamp on the Paika Rebellion.
"I would request you to kindly initiate necessary steps for early release of the commemorative postage stamp " said the Chief Minister in a letter to Union Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha.
Patnaik informed that the state government is celebrating the bi-centenary of Paika Rebellion in a grand manner befitting its rightful place in the history of India s freedom struggle.
The Paik Rebellion was an armed rebellion against the British East India Company s rule in Odisha in 1817.
The Chief Minister said the state government has given a proposal to the Centre to release a commemorative postage stamp in the memory of this historic revolt on the occasion of its bi-centenary.
