Shaadi.com objects name and contents of Running Shaadi.com
The film's producer Shoojit Sircar has agreed to remove all references to the website in the film and also planned to change the title. So ultimately some portions of the film will have to be re-dubbed. Not only that but the publicity material which is already printed will have to be re-designed as well, going along with the new title of the film, which the makers haven't announced yet, states Mumbai Mirror.
A spokesperson of Shaadi.com told Mumbai Mirror “Apart from using Shaadi.com, a trademark, in the title, People Interactive Pvt. Ltd, owners of the website, objected to the fact that the movie portrays a different angle by promoting runaway weddings which do not sync with the Indian culture, the company fears that this could negatively impact its image in the market."
According to Shaadi.com's CEO Gourav Rakshit, they reached out to the makers of Running Shaadi.com because the title had a direct reference to their website. He says "We communicated with them three weeks ago and asked them to show us the script or the film so that we could make sure that our brand was not being defamed in the film. They said something about creative license and declined to show us the script or the film nor showed any intentions of properly discussing the issues we had with having our brand being dragged into the title. As time passed it became illogical and their arrogance was simply frustrating, so we had to take legal recourse." He further added that any other facing the same issue would have taken a similar step that Shaadi.com did. So many people get married through the website and it's not correct to display a negative image to the consumers," Rakshit added. Keep visiting www.windowtonews.com for more- WTN
