Budapest July 29 (IANS) Russian Anton Chupkov broke his own FINA World Championships record in the men s 200 metres breaststroke on his way to winning the title here.
A late acceleration from the 20-year-old Chupkov was enough to break the Japanese domination over the first 150 meters of the race as he clocked 2:06.96 on Friday reports Efe.
Chupkov won came in third at the Rio 2016 Olympics broke the record he set in the semi-finals when he registered 2:07.14.
Japanese Yasuhiro Koseki and Ippei Watanabe who did not make the most of their strong start had to settle with second and third places respectively.
Koseki clocked 2:07.29 ahead of his compatriot Watanabe (2:07.47) the world record holder since January when he registered 2:06.67.
