Tokyo stocks open lower

29 May 2017

Tokyo May 29 (IANS) Tokyo stocks opened lower on Monday as the market mood was soured before the opening bell by North Korea test-firing a missile that may have landed in Japan s exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 51.52 points or 0.26 per cent from Friday to 19 635.32 Xinhua news agency reported.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange meanwhile fell 2.39 points or 0.15 per cent to 1 567.03.

Iron and steel mining and oil and coal product-related stocks composed those that declined the most in early trade.
