April 27 (WTN)- There are over 200 countries in the world but very few of them are really rich. The premise of how rich one is, is actually a dicey term because the calculation of riches is based on the purchasing power parity of the people of that country and it also depends on the population of the country. If there are ten people in a country for instance and the income is Rs 100, then every person has Rs 10 with him to spend. But the same amount, if needs to be distributed among 20 people, the per capita value diminishes. Therefore, despite the same income levels, two countries may vary drastically in their actual riches, even after generating the same revenue. Perhaps this is the reason that the richest countries are often those with the lowest population to feed. But since per capita GDP is the only scientifically accepted basis of measuring how rich a country is, we have to go by it. In the end we are only as rich as we have in our hands.

1. Qatar: This oil-rich small Middle Eastern nation is the richest country in the world with a per capita income of $ 124, 930 per person. With a population of just about 25 lakh (2.3 mn to be precise) the national income is good enough to keep every person amply prosperous and affluent.



2. Luxembourg: This small European nation has a ridiculously low population of just about 6.5 lakh, smaller than most modern cities on the planet. But conversely, it translates into its being the second richest country in the world with a per capita income of $ 109,190.



3. Singapore: Being an important south Asian import-export hub as it is and a major gateway to South Asia tourism, Singapore, the city-state with its 60 lakh population, has per capita income of $ 90,530, making it the third richest nation of the world.



4. Brunei: The small kingdom nation has a population of mere 4 lakh. As such, its per capita income stands at $ 76,740, making it fourth on the list of the richest.



5. Ireland: With an annual per capita of GDP standing at $72,630, England’s posh neigbourhood boasts of being the richest in Europe and the fastest growing. It makes for the fifth position on the rich list.



6. Norway: The cold Scandinavian nation with a population of just over 5 million (50 lakh), comes at the sixth spot notching an annual per capita figure of $ 70,590.



7. Kuwait: With $ 69,670 per capita income, the small Arab nation Kuwait holds the sixth spot on the list. With plenty of oil and gas to make money from and a modest 4 million people to sustain, Kuwait holds the promise of doing only better. 



8. UAE: When it comes to oil and natural gas, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) cannot stay behind. With a population advantage of just 10 million, UAE is also the tourism hub of the Middle East and one of the major revenue generators in the region. It has per capita income of $ 68,250.



9. Switzerland: Per person in Switzerland has an average annual income of $ 61,360, making it rightfully hold the 9th spot. Its population is around 8 million.



10. Hong Kong: Another Asian economic giant Honk Kong has per capita income of $ 61, 020, which is just $340 short of Switzerland, which dislodges it to the 10th position. Its total population is close to 8 million.
