TRS worker attempts self-immolation in party meeting

30 Aug 2017

Hyderabad Aug 30 (IANS) A TRS worker on Wednesday attempted self-immolation at a party meeting in the presence of a Telangana minister.

The incident occurred during a meeting of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at Tandur in Vikarabad district near Hyderabad.

Peeved over being ignored in the party former president of party s Tandur town unit Ayub Khan poured kerosene and set himself afire at a meeting of party workers in the presence of Transport Minister Mahender Reddy.

Other party workers doused the fire but Khan sustained 60 percent burns. He was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad where his condition is stated to be critical.

The TRS worker resorted to the extreme step during a meeting convened by the minister to sort out differences among party workers.

Khan was upset over the leadership ignoring those who participated in the movement for a separate Telangana state.

After the incident Khan s supporters staged a road blockade demanding justice.
