A newly discovered dwarf planet nicknamed “Farout” may be the solar system’s most distant resident

Researchers have spotted a pink-hued object, which could be a dwarf planet, that is 120 astronomical units from the Sun and is moving so slowly that it could take more than 1,000 years to orbit the Sun.

The object is officially named VG18 but has been nicknamed Farout by astronomers.

Dwarf planet discovered on fringe of solar system is furthest object orbiting Sun. Pink-hued 500 km diameter is named VG18, but dubbed 'Farout' by researchers. Planet is 120 Astronomical Units from Sun (18B km); Earth is 1 AU, Pluto is 34. Estimated time of orbit is 1,000 years.
