Afghanistan's state-run universities reopen: Report

26 Feb 2022
Kabul, Feb 26 (IANS) Afghanistan's state-run universities reopened on Saturday, more than six months after the Taliban's takeover of the country.
"Based on a plan previously announced by the higher education ministry, the public universities reopened today in colder climate areas ... Students are attending Kabul University, with male and female students in separate classes," Xinhua news agency reported citing local media Tolo News TV.
Since the Taliban's takeover of the country on August 15, 2021, all state-run universities had remained closed. However, students returned to their classes in public universities in a few warmer provinces of the country's 34 provinces earlier in February.
Earlier officials of the higher education ministry of the Taliban-led caretaker government announced that female students can attend higher education institutions and universities but in gender-separated classes.
