San Francisco Jan 19 (IANS) In response to the Shanghai Consumer Council on an inquiry letter over the slowdown of older iPhones after an iOS update Apple on Friday said that an upcoming version of iOS will allow iPhone owners to make the decision between their iPhone s speed and battery condition.

The company said the update will allow users to check the health of their battery and choose whether to turn off the part of the iPhone software that slows it down to preserve its battery life Xinhua news agency reported.

"Apple needs to let consumers know that the system update could slow down their iPhones and leave the choice to consumers " Xinhua quoted Tang Jiansheng deputy secretary-general of the consumer council as saying.

The council in mid-January demanded the cause of the performance and remedy measures as well as complete information regarding the interests of consumers.

The council said it received 2 615 complaints on Apple products and services in 2017 compared with 964 complaints in 2015.
