Archaeological researcher found murdered in Bengal

Kolkata Oct 26 (IANS) An elderly archaeological researcher was on Thursday found brutally murdered in West Bengal s Nadia district police said.



Sulekha Mukherjee 65 was found lying dead on the floor of her house in Bandel. It seems she was attacked on Wednesday night during a robbery a police officer said.

"There was a deep cut on her throat caused by a sharp weapon. Her head was also hit with something heavy to ensure she died. Both rooms in the house were found ransacked and valuables stolen " the officer said.

Mukherjee a former teacher involved in archaeological research after retirement had many stones and carvings of historical and archaeological value in her possession.

Investigators said they would take a stock of all archaeological items in her house to check if something valuable had gone missing.
