Panaji Dec 13 (IANS) The movement of nomads vagabonds and hawkers will be restricted on Goa s beaches so that tourists are not disturbed the government said on Wednesday.
Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar told the Assembly that Lamanis members of a nomadic tribe harass tourists who frequent coastal regions.
"Any person who disturbs the tourists and hampers tourism will not be allowed to do so " said Ajgaonkar.
He said the India Reserve Battalion police force tourist wardens and the Tourist Security Force had been deployed to restrict the movement of vagabonds and hawkers and check "illegal activities" on the beaches of north and south Goa.
Lamanis are a nomadic community from Rajasthan Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh many thousands of whom are settled in Goa. They are engaged in a variety of businesses on the coastal belt.
In May Lamanis in Goa protested against Ajgaonkar for demanding a ban on them.
Goa attracts more than six million tourists every year half a million of whom are foreigners.
