Ensure more allocations for children, elderly: Social sector organisations

New Delhi Dec 6 (IANS) Organisations working in the social sector on Wednesday demanded increased allocations for child protection schemes healthcare for the elderly and incentives to ensure better employment conditions for working mothers.



The demands were put before Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during his pre-Budget consultations with various stakeholders in the sector.

Representatives of more than 20 such organisations working for Dalits rights Right to Food and Education child protection senior citizens water conservation and nutrition and health met the Minister.

Jaitley agreed with their demand that ministries should release welfare schemes funds on priority to intended beneficiaries.

He said the Narendra Modi government was fully committed to ensure effective fund utilisation by welfare schemes launched by various ministries an official statement said.

The Minister welcomed suggestions for more targeted benchmarks to improve the quality of government-funded schools streamlining vocational training to boost employment address needs of labour in informal sector and aid paperless and cashless dealings with employers to ensure transparency for employees.
