Srinagar April 25 (IANS) An anti-corruption court on Wednesday sentenced former Chairman of state Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer to ten years in jail and a fine of Rs 1 crore.
Peer was arrested by the State Crime Branch on November 23 2015 after investigations revealed that he was involved in selling question papers for entrance into medical engineering and other professional colleges.
The Crime Branch had accused Peer and 50 other people for running a multi-crore paper leakage scam.
The court also sentenced the broker of the paper leakage scam Sajad Ahmad Bhat to five years in jail and a fine of Rs 50 lakh.
Forty-three people have also been awarded different sentences including the beneficiary students who had bought the entrance papers and made it to various professional colleges. The beneficiary students have been sentenced to one year in jail.
