WTN- The word “Mahalaya” is formed of two words “Maha” or grand and “Alaya” meaning abode. This is not just any other day for the Bengalis. It’s a day of celebration, loaded with rich stories and beautiful traditions.

The Day Godess Durga Descended To Earth To Fight Evils.
It marks the end of Pitru Paksha and beginning of Devi Paksha. A big part of Mahalaya is to remember the departed souls by offering tarpan. But unlike other years, this time it will not be done early in the morning.

It is an auspicious day for Bengalis, who celebrate it with much enthusiasm. Mahalaya is observed seven days before the Durga Puja.
