New species of venomous snake discovered in Australia
Newly discovered venomous snake in Queensland under threat as it is bauxite mining area. It can be at at risk of being wiped out before it can be declared a threatened species.
In a discovery by luck, a team of biologists were returning from a sea snake research mission when they found a new venomous species for Australia.
Bandy-bandies were burrowing snakes. “The team found another specimen in its natural habitat near Weipa, and another killed by a car close to the mine. Two more of the snakes were found in museum collections and a photo was found of another, contributing to a total of six observations in the same small area.” According to media reports.
