Chandigarh Sep 8 (IANS) Punjab cadre Indian Administrative Service officer T.K. Goyal has been sentenced to three-year rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case by a court in Mohali town adjoining Chandigarh a state Vigilance Bureau spokesman said here on Friday.
Tej Kumar Goyal was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act on September 8 2010 while he was serving as a Joint Secretary in the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Department.
"The officer was caught red-handed by a Vigilance Bureau team at his office in the Civil Secretariat here while accepting Rs 50 000 as bribe from complainant George Shambu of Begowal village in Kapurthala district " he added.
Shambu had complained that Goyal was demanding Rs 1 lakh to issue him a caste certificate.
