Sikkim is a land locked state located towards the north-eastern region of India, It is a small mountainous state earlier known as Sukhim (a new home), with the least population and has no open valley or plains. Sikkim is notable for its biodiversity, including alpine and sub-tropical climates. Kangchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world is located here, it means five repositories of the great snow. This snowclad mountain is believed by the sikkimese to be the inhabitats of their gods and sprits. The twenty-two ethnic communities who inhabit the hills are in popular parlance often grouped as Bhutia, Lepcha and Nepali. Lepcha handloom, cane & bamboo product are famous for their artistic design.
