Bhopal: In Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, A photographic exhibition on land, people and culture of Sikkim – SUKHIM has become popular in amongst visitors coming to the museum. This photographic exhibition provides a grand array of sikkim's land, people and culture in a nutshell. This exhibition has been created by Shri. Arun Kiro (Assistant Curator) with the help of museum officials and  Dr. Uttam Lal and Dr. Karishma Lepcha from Sikkim.

The culture of Sikkim can be depicted through its cuisine, people, religion, language, art & crafts, music, dance and tourism. Sikkim is a perfect blend of all these attributes to make a distinct culture of its own.

Sikkim is a land locked state located towards the north-eastern region of India, It is a small mountainous state earlier known as Sukhim (a new home), with the least population and has no open valley or plains. Sikkim is notable for its biodiversity, including alpine and sub-tropical climates. Kangchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world is located here, it means five repositories of the great snow. This snowclad mountain is believed by the sikkimese to be the inhabitats of their gods and sprits. The twenty-two ethnic communities  who inhabit the hills are in popular parlance often grouped as Bhutia, Lepcha and Nepali. Lepcha handloom, cane & bamboo product are famous for their artistic design. Bhutias are good in weaving carpet, craftsmanship, intricate paintings of Buddhist Thankas, etc. The Nepalese are good in craftsmanship.-Window To News
