Sushil wins gold in KSS shooting championship

New Delhi July 29 (IANS) Senior Army marksman Sushil Ghaley clinched the gold medal in the mens 50 metre Rifle Prone on the third day of the Kumar Surendra Singh (KSS) Memorial Shooting Championship here on Saturday.



Sushil overcame the challenge from promising youngster Swapnil Kusale of the Railways in the Final at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges here.

Sushil shot 251.8 in the final to Swapnil s 247.4. Another veteran and Olympian Sanjeev Rajput won the bronze shooting 226.3.

Earlier on day two the young and promising Haryana pistol shooter Anish stole the limelight bagging a double with both the men s and junior men s 25 metre Rapid Fire Pistol crowns.

In the men s final Anish got the better of former Olympic Silver medallist and state-mate Vijay Kumar 31-30. Olympian Gurpreet Singh of the army came in third with 23.

The 10m Air Rifle title had also been won late in the night on day two by Pratik Borse representing the Navy.

The KSS Memorial Shooting Championship will conclude on August 1 following which the rifle and pistol shooters move on to the third and fourth selection trials of the year which will help select the Indian team for the Commonwealth Shooting Championship scheduled for October-November this year in Australia.
