Trump, Xi to jointly fight terrorism in South Asia: China

09 Nov 2017

Beijing Nov 9 (IANS) China on Thursday said President Xi Jinping and his visiting US counterpart Donald Trump have arrived at a consensus to jointly take on terrorism in South Asia.

"This morning the two Presidents talked and held a joint press meeting. I am not aware of the details of the talks. What I know is that the two sides also discussed anti-terrorism issues and upholding peace and stability in South Asia " Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.

"They reached consensus in this respect " she said.

Earlier in the day Trump said Xi held talks with him over a range of issues in which South Asia and the strife-torn Afghanistan also figured.

"In order to create more secure future for all and protect our citizens from extremism and terrorism President Xi and I also committed to working together for a peaceful future for Afghanistan " Trump said.

"Terrorists are a threat to all of the humanity and we will stop radical Islamic terrorism " he said.
